New Skincare Routine

I just had my first baby girl, beautiful Amari, about 7 months ago and my skin has taken a turn for the worse. I'm chalking it up to my hormones being out of whack. But anyway, I seem to have clogged pores and cystic acne all over my forehead and chin. This is extremely hard for me to deal with because I've never had serious acne. In the past few months I have tried several products, none yielding any results.. All of my current skincare that usually keeps my skin clear decided to stop doing it's job and it's been a rough road trying to find something that works with my ever changing skin. After trying everything from the expensive high end brands and prescriptions to medicated store brands I decided it was finally time to get a Clarisonic Mia and try it out. My sister has been using her Clarisonic with good ol' Cetaphil and her skin is basically flawless so I decided to give it a try. After the first 2 days of cleansing with this duo I noticed a huge difference. I could not believe how much better my skin looked after such a short period of time. I would cleanse morning and night and follow up with Cetaphil Daily Advance Lotion. My skin gets super dry in the winter and this lotion really does the trick. It keeps my skin quenched all day and night and has healed all of my random dry patches. I usually re-up during the day also just because the dry indoor heat really does a number on my skin. For all these years I have spent a small fortune on department store skincare and here I am using Cetaphil and loving it! It's very mild and doesn't dry out my skin yet cleanses very thoroughly. I will never use anything else!!! I also do a Coconut Oil cleanse 3x a week with my Clarisonic. This really helps heal my skin and keep it extra healthy! I will do a post on all my Coconut Oil uses soon! It's amazing! As for my Clarisonic I love the deep cleansing it gives my skin. I feel so refreshed after. I also love that it helps my skincare products absorb and work better too! I don't know why I didn't get one sooner!! I highly recommend investing in one for clear, beautiful, soft skin.

The $119.00 Clarisonic Mia comes in all of these fun colors!
I got the light yellow one.

Obviously I've been MIA for quite some time and I apologize.. I actually had a baby on June 5, 2012. During my pregnancy I was literally miserable and had no motivation whatsoever to blog :( And when my beautiful baby girl Amari was born all I wanted to do was hold and snuggle her. Now she is almost 7 months old and I am finally ready to jump back in. I will be doing my usual beauty stuff but with a mom twist.. Getting ready for the day is a lot harder now that I'm a mom!! I have literally lived in yoga pants and for the past 7 months and I don't feel bad about it at all!!! I will also blog a bit about my fitness routine and diet and what my new plans are for life. My perspective on life changed the instant I saw her face. I can't explain it but I just wanted to be better. My goals changed. Things that were once important to me were no longer relevant. Everything I was working for was no longer what I wanted so I changed everything and basically started fresh. Obviously God has a different plan for me and I trust Him.

My older sister and I are also planning a blog together for the new year. So at some point I might integrate both blogs into one, but for now here I am. I'm excited to get back to blogging and I have lot of fun things to share on my journey of (MOM) beauty, fashion and life!! I hope everyone had a beautiful and blessed holiday and I wish everyone a happy and safe New Year!! Talk to you soon!

COVERGIRL Blasflipstick = LovE

So, as an official BzzAgent I get to try awesome products for free and tell people what I think.. Basically Word of Mouth advertising!! Well, anyway, this month I received 3 beautiful shades of Covergirl's Blastflipstick! I am in love with this lipstick. Now, I'm not usually a drugstore makeup kind of girl but I have to say that this lipstick is pretty great! My favorite color is "Whisper". It's a very neutral shade of pink. Absolutely perfect for creating that natural pinkish nude lip! The other end is a light shimmery pink. I think having 2 customizable colors in one stick is an ingenious idea. You can wear the pink alone or add a little shimmer or a lot of shimmer! You'll have no problem creating the perfect, one of a kind shade! The color was surprisingly creamy and very light. It was also somewhat moisturizing which is rare in a lipstick, The color was very pigmented and was long lasting. I'm very excited to try other shades in this product. 5 stars!!

Your Perfect Brow

Thin and high-arched brows aren’t always the ideal—it depends on your face shape. Here are some tips to help you get the perfect brow shape.

Best brows for square and long square faces
A high arch can be overpowering. Instead, moderately thick brows with a subtle arch will look better. The goal is to make the forehead space look wider than it is. This will help to balance out the proportions of a square face.

Best brows for round and round square faces
Round-faced beauties have a bit of flexibility when it comes to their brows. A slim medium arch is the ideal shape because it thins out the face, but how skinny you want to go is up to you entirely. Experiment with the thickness of your brow to find your own preference.

Best brows for oval faces
Congrats to you, oval-faced beauty—you can flaunt that coveted high eyebrow shape like a pro. Thinner high arches are “an attention-grabbing power brow” for oval faces because it suits the proportions of the face.

Best brows for long and long heart faces
Long faces look regal and elegant, but brows that are too arched or curvy can make you look perma- surprised. A straight, medium thick brow with a very subtle arch suits a long face by drawing the attention outward instead of up and down.

Best brows for heart shape faces
The trick to brows for heart shaped faces is to make that narrow chin look soft and rounded out rather than pointy and sharp. A low arched brow creates a natural, feminine look. A high arched round brow adds length to a shorter heart face shape that is possibly needed. They also look more dramatic. A low arched round brow creates a natural, feminine look.

How to get the perfect shaped brows:
  1. To determine where the brow should begin, imagine a straight line from the outside edge of your nose up to the inside corner of your eye. The inner corner of the brow should begin along this line.
  2. To determine where the tail of the brow should end, imagine a straight line from the center of the upper lip, along the outer edge of the nose, up to the outer corner of the eye. The tail of the brow should end at this line.
  3. To determine arch placement, imagine a straight line from the tip of the nose through the middle of the pupil. The eyebrow should arch where that line intersects with the brow.
When shaping your brows always follow the diagram above. This will help prevent you from tweezing your eyebrows too short. As far as the thickness and exact shape of your brow chose depending on your face shape from the info above.

NOTE: The exaggeration of the arch is dependent on the strength of facial features which also dictates the thickness of the eyebrows.  I personally think full eyebrows are always sexy though. There are several great eyebrow shaping kits out there to help you achieve your perfect brow. Here are a few of my faves:

Too Faced Brow Envy $35.00

Anastasia 5 Element Brow Kit $65.00

Review: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator/Microdermabrasion System

I used to have very dry, flaky skin. No matter how much facial cream or exfoliating scrubs I used it never helped.. I absolutely hated wearing any kind of foundation or powder because no matter how little or what kind I put on, I always looked cake-y! I started researching how I could help make my skin healthier and get that "Glow" back to my complexion. I realized that the exfoliating process I was using was not getting deep enough and was leaving lots of dry skin cells behind. (yuck, I know) This was causing the dullness and dryness to my skin. I immediately scheduled a professional Microdermabrasion session hoping that would be the cure. Well, after they scratched and scuffed and what felt like "abrased" my face right off I broke out worse then I ever have in my life! My face was sooo tender it hurt to sleep at night. After all the blemishes healed and the redness and irritation went away my skin looked fantastic, for about 2 weeks. Clearly I could see that it was hardly going to be worth the pain, breakouts and money I spent. So, obviously I never went back. A couple weeks later my skin was back to it's old self again. Dull as ever! I tried almost every kind of exfoliating scrubs and nothing worked. Basically long story short, I saw this Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator at CVS and decided to give it a try. It said it would give you the same results as professional microdermabrasion, but less invasive. It claimed to help with wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and enlarged pores. Perfect!! Just was I was looking for.

I started using it once a week on the lowest level just to see how my skin reacted to it. The directions say to "massage" each region of your face for 3 minutes. I suggest if you have sensitive skin to start with 1 minute rather than the full 3. Immediately after using this product I saw a difference in my complexion. It was brighter, smoother and glowing! I was ecstatic. But, in the back of my mind I worried about how my skin would look in the morning. I woke up the next morning, and to my surprise, I had none of those nasty blemishes that appeared after Microderm!! This product gave me the same results, if not better, then the professional microderm! As I continued with this product my skin just kept getting better and better! I no longer was insecure about my dry, dull complexion. Foundation applied effortlessly and flawlessly, even powder! I started using it twice and my skin stays flawless and bright everyday. It definitely helped my skin stop producing so many dry, dead skin cells. Now I rarely even feel the need to wear foundation. My cheeks have a constant natural rosy glow. My pores are almost invisible and my skin tone is even. I also use it very gently on my lips to exfoliate the dry skin, I have EXTRA dry, chapped lips. I can't tell you enough about how much I love this product and how it changed my complexion! Definitely recommend to anyone who feels they have a dull complexion but wants to skip the rough pro microderm at the doctor's.

I honestly couldn't find any CONS with this product. But here are the PROS:
  • Balances Skin
  • Gentle
  • Improves Skin Texture/Complexion
  • Minimizes Age Spots
  • Leaves a Clean Feel
  • Increases Firmness
  • Reduces Pore Size
  • Helps With Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Great For All Skin Types
  • Helps Serums and Creams Absorb Deeper into the Skin for Better Results

Dermatologist Clinical Study Proves:
INSTANTLY - 89% Had smoother, more luminous skin
AFTER 3 USES - 88% had visible improvement of the look of fine lines
AFTER 12 USES - 88% had significantly reduced appearance of wrinkles or age spots

The kit comes with the Microderm Massager and 1 pack of 12 little scrubbies which retails for $19.99

The refills are about $15.00 for 24ct depending on the store.

My Fave Hair Products For Damaged Hair

My hair has been through the ringer in the last year. My hair has always been dark, natural and thick, but I had to go blonde for a movie and only had a month to do so!! With-in a month I had my hair bleached 3 times! My hair was fried and was so much thinner because of all the breakage! I wanted to cry, but I think anyone would have done it for the opportunity I was given. My hair felt like straw and was literally impossible to brush through after the shower.  No matter how much conditioner I used it was a tangled mess!! I had breakage all the way up halfway to my roots. My stylist suggested I started using a "Sulfate Free" shampoo and conditioner as it should help with the de-tangling. Sulfates (aka Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate) are agents that help create the lather and suds in our shampoos. They have a huge tendency to dry out hair and strip color. Nowadays so many companies are going for the Sulfate-Free route because of this. I opted for L'oreal Sulfate-Free shampoo line. They have a few different options: Ever-Pure, Ever-Sleek and Ever-Strong. I opted for the Ever Strong Re-Construct system. After the first use I was amazed! My hair was soft and I had no trouble brushing through it. And after it dried it was super soft and shiny!! Woohoo! After I was done shooting, I immediately started the long process of getting my hair back to it's natural color. After about 4 months it was back to normal, as far as color goes, but the damage was irreversible. You could see the breakage and it drove me nuts. I stopped blow-drying my hair all together so I wouldn't be adding anymore damage as my hair desperately tried to grow out. I rarely used heating tools, unless required. I wanted to do everything I could to help my hair along.

I went back to the store looking for deep conditioners and products that would help protect my hair from further damage. So I purchased L'oreal Ever-Strong Overnight Repair Treatment,  "It's A 10 Miracle Hair Mask and Miracle Shine Spray. We had used this brand on set and I absolutely loved it, so naturally I was dying to try this mask. Also, I wanted to try Frederic Fekkai Shea Butter Damage Protecting mask. My hair was in dyer need of some major R&R.

      So, here are my reviews!!

      L'oreal Ever-Strong Re-Construct Shampoo and Conditioner - $6.99 each
      • Contains patented Bio-Ceramide Complex
      • Gently cleanses to help resist breakage and tame frizz.
      • Rich aroma of Rosemary and Juniper awake the senses

This shampoo has a creamy texture, produces an extremely rich lather and never leaves any residue behind. Always rinses clean and I love the scent. It's amazing how small of an amount you need for such a rich lather. The shampoo lasts forever, and I am notorious for squeezing WAAAY too much shampoo into my hand than needed. So the fact that this bottle last more than a month for me is crazy! The conditioner is very moisturizing. I usually leave it on for ten minutes, just to get that extra oompf of moisture for my hair. This also rinses away clean and leaves a fresh, but not over bearing scent behind. With this conditioner I never have to use de-tangler before I brush. My hair is silky and never has tangles! Out of all the Shampoo and Conditioner brands I have tried, even the salon brands, this is by far one of my top faves!! Especially since my hair is soo damaged. I have also recently tried the Ever-Strong Bodify shampoo and loved that as well. For this price you can't find better!!

      L'oreal Ever-Strong Overnight Repair Treatment - $8.99
      • Sulfate Free
      • Contains patented Bio-Ceramide Complex which strengthens and deeply nourishes hair
      • Penetrates hair fiber while you sleep for deeper conditioning

I love this. It smells sooo good and doesn't make your hair feel greasy at all. After I get out of the shower I use 1-2 pumps and run it through my hair twice a week. I then brush through it to help even the application. It absorbs quickly with no residue so you don't have to worry about your clothes or pillow case.. The next morning my hair was soft and smooth and I could definitely see a difference in the condition of my hair; ie - less "fly-aways" and the breakage was less visible. It was awesome. It was very shiny and healthy looking. I use this once a week to help nourish my hair. I would definitely recommend!!

      It's A 10 Miracle Hair Mask - $37.50
      • De-tangles, restores moisture balance and elasticity
      • Adds luminous shine and improves color vibrancy
      • Enhances natural body

Boasting 10 instant benefits this is by far my absolute favorite!!It is medium thick white cream that applies effortlessly through the hair, root to tip.I usually just scoop about a third of a handful, but depending on your hair length and thickness you will need a little more. I use it as a weekly treatment so the jar has more than enough to last me a full month. I leave it on for 20 minutes after I shampoo once a week. Making sure I pay special attention to my ends. It has a very fresh, kind of fruity scent. This product has definitely shown the biggest instant and continuous improvement in my hair. Never tangles and is super shiny after it dries. It smooths everything down and my hair looks just as healthy as it was.. well.. when it actually was healthy!! My hair has never felt so soft. Every time i use this I get so many compliments on my hair. I adds vibrancy to each strand and in the sun.... it is sooo glossy and shimmery! That is seriously the best way I can explain it! It is bouncy and has lots of body. Which is a huge factor for me because even though I have tons of hair, it is so fine. I know it's a little pricey but for the results I splurge every month. and I have seen it online for a bit cheaper.

      It's A 10 Miracle Shine Spray - $24.50
      • Acts as an Anti-Oxidant to protect against environmental damage
      • Anti-Humidity, minimizes frizz and imparts control and manageability
      • Provides weightless shine
      • Does not contain oil
      • Improves hair's elasticity
      • Thermal protection
      • Locks in moisture and protects hair

I use this in between my deep conditioners. You can use it on damp hair for de-tangling and thermal protection and on dry hair for an amazing shine. I use it both ways. I love this because unlike other shine sprays, it does not contain any oils. So it doesn't give your hair that dirty greasy feeling. Don't go overboard though, even though there are no oils if you use too much it will leave a residue. The shine it produces is like no other. After I am done styling I spray it all over my hair to set my style and add shine. It smells fantastic and the shine lasts all day or night. This is great for in between your deep conditioning treatments. Love it! I'm sure this is also cheaper online then in store.

Frederic Fekkai Shea Butter Damage Protecting Hair Mask - $23.00
      • Fatty Acids extracted from Shea Butter provide extreme moisture
      • Intensive Hydration
      • Protects hair from styling damage

I was a little skeptical at first when I started applying it after my shampoo.. It didn't really seem creamy. I mean it was very thick and had some sort of tiny seeds that made the experience feel a bit like a scalp massage, which I liked. I felt like I had to use a lot of the product just to get all of my hair saturated. After I worked this thick treatment through my hair, paying special attention to the ends of course, I left it on for 20 minutes. As I washed it out it didn't really feel like it had a made a difference. My hair actually kind of felt dry and course. And in no way has my hair ever been course. It just felt weird to me. I felt like maybe I should have left it in longer. The scent was something very familiar to me but I can't really put my finger on it. But I loove the scent. After towel drying my hair I went to pick through it and it was a tangled mess :( I ended up using my Ever-Strong Overnight Treatment in conjunction just so I didn't have to snag and pull on my already fragile tresses... That did the trick and I could easily comb through it.. But in my head I was so disappointed because you'd think anything Fekkai is going to be phenomenal, but in no way was it even worth the price, especially since I had to use damn near half the tube to saturate my hair. After I blow dried my hair it did feel extra soft and smooth and did still have that fresh, nostalgic scent. I just don't know if that was from the Shea Butter Mask or the Ever-Strong Repair treatment. But, all in all, I don't think I will be purchasing this product again. I still have 2 full tubes left because I like to buy everything in bulk so I don't have to go back. ugh. Maybe next time I will really try to use it without any other product and see what the true end result is. I just feel that if you are spending that much on a product then you shouldn't have to use any other products or de-tanglers in conjunction just so you can comb through your hair!! Definitely would not recommend :(

ELC RD-PLUS w/ DaoPlex Leave in Protein Cream - $39.99
      • Intense Reconstructor
      • Restores and strengthens the internal hair structure and adds shine
      • Infused with silk and keratin proteins
      • Reduces breakage
      • Provides thermal and UV protection
      • Color protection
      • Replaces moisture loss from the hair

As soon as I bleached my hair this is the product that my stylist recommended. When your hair is damaged and tangles easily it means that there is severe protein loss in the folicle. The folicle is open and that's why it continuously gets stuck and tangled with the other strands. This is a leave-in protein treatment. During my blonde phase I used this every other day to help restore the moisture and protein back into my hair. You only need a tiny bit. You rub the product together in your hands and work through your hair. I usually skipped the root because of my hairs history os getting greasy extra fast, but I would always pay special attention to the ends of my hair and where I noticed the most damage. Do another comb through after the product has been applied to assure even application. During this time it made my damage disappear totally and also added a thickening feel. My hair was soft and super manageable. This was a total life saver after what my hair had been through.. I still continue to use it about 1-2x a week to give my hair that extra moisture and protein boost. My hair will never be back to normal until all of the breakage grows out from the bleach. So I just have to be patient and take special care of my tresses. I always get a trim every month, and even with seldom use of hot tools and dryers, I still have split ends. At least it means they are growing out and soon my hair will have no trace left of the traumatic damaging bleach it endured.

I hope this was helpful and insightful. I know that my hair will never be back to normal until it fully grows out from where the blonde was. And I can't wait for that day when my gorgeous thick hair returns with no breakage. In the mean-time these are the products I use most and I believe they are helping protect against further damage as my hair grows out. Let me know if you have nay questions! Good Luck!!!

      My Top Fall/Winter Beauty Necessities

      • WINTER BODY CARE AND TIPS:

Cold weather brings winds, snow, dry air and indoor heating. These are all factors that impact the health of your skin. These harsh conditions suck the moisture right out of your skin. To help over-ride the intense moisture loss apply deep lotion twice a day. After you shower and before you go to bed. It also helps to get a super moisturizing body wash to give you skin that much needed help with moisture depletion. (Go for Dove Nutrium). I know it's tempting to linger in your hot shower on your cold mornings but this, in fact, washes away the lipid layer from your skin which is the layer that keeps out pollutants, free radicals (which age you IMMENSELY), and protects it from damage. Naturally none of us want premature aging!! So instead of those super steamy hot showers try turning down the temp and not staying in any longer than needed.

During the cold season it is very important to use heavier, thicker moisturizers and creams. Indoor heat is VERY dry and causes your skin to become overly dry. A humidifier would be a good choice to keep the air in your room moist while you sleep. It will help combat the depleting moisture of the dry heat.Turn down your heat if possible, add some extra blankets to your bed to snuggle in and buy some cute, super warm thermals from Victoria's Secret to keep warm in when you're home :)

When leaving the house always apply a medicated lip balm or moisturizing gloss to protect them from the frigid temperatures and wind. I know that I constantly lick my lips in the winter if I don't have some sort of moisturizer with me, which dries them out even more. Colder temps and wind definitely take a tole on your hands as well. They can get so dry that they can crack and be very painful. Harsh temperatures also do a number on your healthy nails. So before going out it is imperative to use a quality moisturizer on your hands, also paying special attention to the cuticles.

      • WINTER HAIRCARE AND TREATMENTS

Again, we know how drying indoor heating is and in no way is your hair safe from the dry air when you're home. So same goes to protect your hair; always keep a humidifier running to help add moisture to your home and try to lower your heat temp. I would recommend investing in a thick, quality deep conditioner to use once a week in the fall and winter months. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing. This can help keep the follicles moisture rich and help combat moisture depletion. If you are one who uses the hair dryer everyday try in on low heat... Yes, I know what you're thinking... "that's going to take forever!!" I know it will add a little extra time into your daily routine but it's worth it. :) Also, if at all possible limit washing your hair to 3 times a week at the most. If you have hair like mine and it's gets greasy easily then opt for a dry shampoo to freshen your "do" in between washes.

        • WINTER SKINCARE TIPS

Try to switch to alcohol free products during this season. Alcohol is VERY drying. There are plenty of alcohol free facial products out there that are wonderful. Buy a thick over-night deep cream for you face to help keep the moisture locked in as you sleep. And apply a healing, creamy moisturizer in the morning before applying makeup. And make sure that your daily moisturizer has sunscreen in it. This is VERY important. Even though it's not hot and sunny like summer you still need SPF. In the winter the sun is actually closer to the earth than it is in the summer months. And if you live in a climate where it snows, then you know how much the sun reflects off of the snow. UVA and UVB rays are the NUMBER ONE cause of premature aging!! Lines, wrinkles, spots,  hyperpigmentation.. Crows feet!! Protect your skin and look young for years to come! :)
